Fred L. Franklin, age 82, of Brownwood passed away on May 5, 2011 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held on Saturday May 7, 2011 at 11:00am at Greenleaf Cemetery with full Masonic Rites and full Military Honors. Family visitation will be Friday evening May 6, 2011 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Fred was born September 14, 1928 in Fannin County, Texas to William E. and Bettie May Franklin. He joined the Army Air Corp at an early age. While serving, he met the love of his life, Billie Jean Rader and they were married in 1952. Before retiring from the USAF, he toured Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Germany, Spain, Africa, Holland, England, Philippines, and Libya. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Brownwood in 1966 and began working for 3M, where he remained for 21 years. Upon retiring from 3M he engaged himself in ranching and real estate. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #279.
Survivors include his wife Billie Jean, one daughter and son-in-law Linda D. and Kenneth VanHuss of Brownwood, two sons Glynn L. Franklin of Brownwood and Lynn L. Franklin and wife Tracy of Brownwood; two sisters Mildred L. Hill of Mansfield and Gladis Hill of Cedar Hill; one brother William T Franklin of Florida and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Bettie Franklin, one son Gary Lee Franklin and one brother T.H. Franklin.
