FranklinFredFuneral services for Fred Irven Franklin, age 55, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 26 at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Liebrum officiating.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Jenkins Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00, Thursday evening.

Fred passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 in Brownwood.

He was born July 8, 1955 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Fred and Betty Franklin.

During his childhood, he was raised in Big Spring, Texas.  He graduated from Coahoma High School in 1973, received his undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University in 1977 and received his J. D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1980.

Fred married Diane Swindler in 1977 and they had two sons, Taylor Franklin and Austin Franklin.  Fred found great joy in coaching his sons in baseball as they grew up, and recently saw both sons marry.

Fred was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and Kiwanis Club of Brownwood.  He was the former Worshipful Master of the Brownwood Masonic Lodge #279.  Fred enjoyed teaching Pre-Law and History classes at Howard Payne University and was a member of the Brown County Bar Association.

Fred was a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Brown County Bar Association and maintained a private law practice in Brownwood.  Throughout his career he served as the Assistant District Attorney, District Attorney, and Municipal Judge for the City of Brownwood.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, James Gregory Franklin.

Fred is survived by  his wife, Diane Franklin; sons, Taylor Franklin and wife Jessica  of Naples, Italy, Austin Franklin and wife Whitney of Lubbock; his parents, Fred Franklin Sr. and Betty Franklin, of Coahoma, Texas; sisters, Linda Wood and children, of Midland, Texas, Kristy Hyatt and husband Jacque Hyatt and children, of Midland, Texas.

The family requests memorials be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn, Dallas, TX 75219.
