Brownwood ISD officials said today that Dr. Lisa Fowler has filed as a candidate in the place 6 spot for Brownwood ISD School Board Trustee.
Fowler practices internal medicine in Brownwood. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and attended medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with residency at Baylor University Medical Center.
The district also announced that incumbent trustee for place 6, Dr. Justin Murphy, withdrew his candidacy in the school board election and is endorsing Dr. Fowler.
Murphy released a statement regarding his decision to withdraw which reads:
“After much reflection and prayer, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for reelection to the School Board. While I have been honored to serve on the school board, my time commitments at Howard Payne have increased and I worry that I might not be able to devote the time and effort required to serve effectively, especially as HPU begin plans for celebrating the Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom’s 50th Anniversary. More important, I was pleased beyond measure to know that Dr. Lisa Fowler is willing to take on the challenge of serving on the school board. She is someone whom I admire greatly and I know that she possesses the qualities necessary to be an effective school board member. With her leadership on the board, Brownwood Independent School District will continue to excel in all its endeavors.”
With Fowler’s filing and Murphy’s withdrawal, the election is now shaping up with one candidate running unopposed in each of the four available races as follows:
Roderick Jones – Place 3 (Incumbent)
Tim Jacobs – Place 7 (Incumbent)
Michael Cloy – Place 1
Dr. Lisa Fowler – Place 6
Potential candidates have until 4:30pm today (Aug 24th) to file for their place on the ballot for Brownwood ISD School Board. The election is scheduled for November 2nd.
