Four Howard Payne University football players are honored with 2012 American Southwest Conference football post-season awards, the ASC office announced on Thursday after a vote of the league’s eight head coaches.
Adrian Lighteard – SECOND TEAM OFFENSE – RB
Lighteard only played in eight games due to injury but still led the Yellow Jacket offense in rushing with 663 yards on 114 carries with two touchdowns. Down two games played, he still finished fourth overal in the ASC in total rushing yards. He rushed for over 100 yards three times this season with a season high 134 yards at Louisiana College.
Bo Ross – SECOND TEAM DEFENSE – LB
Ross was fourth on the team in tackles with 60 (31 solo) and had a team high 10 tackles for loss (fourth in ASC) with four sacks. He also forced three fumbles (fourth in ASC) and had six quarterback hurries. He had a season high 12 tackles versus Southwestern Assemblies of God.
Karl Stewart – HONORABLE MENTION OFFENSE – RET
Stewart had 14 kickoff returns for 408 yards, a 29.14 return average. Karl finished fourth in the ASC in return yards and led the ASC in Kick Return Avg. (29.14). He had a season high 78 yard return at Louisiana College. Karl also was one of the Jackets top receivers catching 29 passes for 238 yards.
J.D. King – ASC OUSTANDING SPORTSMEN TEAM OF THE YEAR – LB
King led the Jackets in tackles with 88 (44 solo), 7.5 for loss. His 88 tackles placed him second overall in the ASC this season. He also had four sacks and forced one fumble. He recorded a season high 11 tackles twice this season versus Wayland Baptist and Louisiana College.
