The American Southwest Conference announced Tuesday the 2013 ASC baseball awards, following a division-only vote by head coaches. Howard Payne landed four players on the All-Conference teams including the ASC West Division Player of the Year.

Howard Payne senior outfielder Carlton Brown was named West Division Player of the Year after hitting .341 with two home runs, six triples, 12 doubles and 30 RBIs. The 6-1, 190-pound senior also went 5-2 on the mound with three saves and struck out 24 over 23 2/3 innings. Brown finished fifth in the ASC in slugging percentage at .571.

Sam Dollahite earned First Team All-West Division honors recording a team high 47 hits and batting .336 from the plate. Dollahite had 11 doubles and one triple in 140 (team high) at bats. He also had the highest fielding percentage among Howard Payne starters at .984.

Houston Holmes was honored on Second Team All-West Division team after hitting .264 and driving in 17 runs. This semester, he received Howard Payne’s award for Outstanding Exercise and Sports Science male student and was HPU’s ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor winner.

Jake Sadler also secured Second Team All-West Division honors hitting .343 from the plate and driving in a team high 32 runs. Sadler led the American Southwest Conference in on base percentage at .477 while stealing a team high 14 bases.

The Yellow Jackets finished the season at 21-19 overall and 7-11 in ASC West Division play.
