CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallOn this final day of filing for city elections, there are now four candidates seeking the Mayor’s seat and none of them are long time Mayor Bert Massey.  The four candidates are Stephen Haynes, Dennis Graham, Fred Spencer, and Gary Maas.  Current Mayor Bert Massey has chosen to not seek re-election this time around.

In another development regarding city elections, City Councilman Ward 2 H.D. Jones filed as a candidate for Ward 1 council seat to run against Steven McCrane who filed as a candidate last month.  Jones has moved his residency from Ward 2 to Ward 1 recently and must resign as Ward 2 Councilman at Tuesday’s City Council Meeting.  This will cause a vacancy in the Ward 2 council seat and a race to develop in Ward 1.

The city will call for a Special Election to fill the vacated seat of H.D. Jones.  The filing period will be from March 23 (after the City Council meeting), until April 7.  The Special Election will be held along with the General Election on May 8, 2010 to fill the vacated seat.

The Ward 4 Councilman candidate Draco Miller is running unopposed.
