Funeral services for Floyd White, age 95, of Brownwood, will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Floyd passed from this life on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home.
Edward Floyd White was born on April 28, 1919 in Mills County to Elijah Franklin and Ollie Mae (Perry) White. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II as a mechanic on amphibious ships in Okinawa. Following the war, he returned to Brownwood and went to work for what is now Brownwood Glass and Alignment. In 1968, Floyd purchased the business and moved it to its present location. He retired from the business in 1994.
Floyd married Edna Walker in September 1938. Following Edna’s death in 1997, he married Lila Reeder Gowin on January 15, 1998. Floyd was a former member and elder of the Early Church of Christ and was currently a member of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ. He enjoyed working with his hands, gardening, tinkering with machinery, looking for garage sale bargains, and fishing.
Floyd is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Lila White of Brownwood, two sons, Malcolm Don White and wife Regena of Early and Myron Perry White and wife Susan of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Melissa Burney, Cody White, David White, Sarah Carter, Tyler White, Lindsay Saxon, and Spenser White; 7 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Dean White.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edna, a son, Charles Wayne White; three sisters, Ila Zagorski, Lois Dugan, and Ann Whitt and five brothers, Alba White, Dan White, Elliott White, Tommy White, and Gene White.
