Brownwood News – The Brownwood House of Refuge, a soon-to-be established homeless shelter, will be hosting a Fish Fry Fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 9th, at 403 Lakeway Drive. Plates are $10 each and include a fried catfish dinner with all the trimmings.

“Come get a great catfish dinner, and hear what we’ve been doing to help the homeless and less fortunate in our community,” invited New Beginnings Pastor Kelly Crenshaw.

Crenshaw’s church, New Beginnings, has purchased an abandoned home near their location on the 900 block of Belle Plain Road and plans to repurpose the property to serve the homeless. The shelter will be called the Brownwood House of Refuge and has been registered a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The church needs up to $15,000 in donations to complete the project. Pastor Crenshaw called the property a “treasure out of darkness.”

“I believe God will use this as a light to the world,” he said in an online video that showcased the property.

New Beginnings Church currently provides housing to a small number of homeless people in a small building located behind the church. Once the new shelter is constructed, it will be open only for males.
