The Brownwood Art Association invites the public to view the work of Patty Rae Wellborn during a special reception on Thursday, March 3rd from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Center, located at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood.

Patty Rae recently won the Brownwood Art Association Oil Medium Award during the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. A self-taught artist, her goal from a very young age was to learn as much as she could by pouring over prints of the masters in books and encyclopedias.

Patty Rae has taught ArtReach programs as a signature artist member of the Center for Contemporary Arts since 1995. For seven years she was a part-time art teacher for St. John’s Episcopal School. “Teaching gave me the opportunity to ‘play’ with and learn about art supplies and methods as I introduced them to my students,” says Wellborn.

For three years she worked as an Event Coordinator for Michaels Arts and Crafts and represented Michaels as a weekly guest on KTAB television giving live demonstrations of art materials and projects.

On Monday nights she is the coordinator for the figure drawing group, fondly referred to as the Dirty-Drawers at the Center for Contemporary Arts where she has a studio. Patty Rae gives private art lessons in drawing and painting. During the summer months she is an art camp instructor for organizations such as the Center for Contemporary Arts, The Grace Museum, The National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature and The Alliance for Women and Children.
