Texas First Lady Anita Perry made a campaign stop in Brownwood on Thursday and told a crowd of supporters about the Texas economy, Texas’ strength in business, and how Washington politics affect the state.
“The biggest threats to Texas are not coming from Austin, but from Washington,” said Perry. “The federal government, spend it all, and as Rick says, ‘Spend it all and spend it all now’, we feel will be the death of our economy.”
She cited that Texas is the number one exporting state in the nation. If Texas was a nation, it would have the 11th largest economy in the world.
“Our country is the most generous, most prosperous and the safest country in the world. And united under God, we are the exceptional country, and I have nothing to apologize for that,” said Perry.
Perry remarked that her husband, Texas Governor Rick Perry, has been the longest serving governor in the state’s history. In regard to the current election, she stated that she feels more momentum in the race for governor.
“Four years ago I’ll tell you, when we were out doing this, that we didn’t see the enthusiasm and momentum we are seeing now,” stated Perry.
She cited employment nationwide, 4 out of 5 jobs were from Texas and that the business recruitment nationwide as well as around the world to bring jobs to Texas as an important reason for that momentum. Perry noted that Texas is one of the strongest of the states in America during these hard economic times.
Perry also noted that women voters are trending to favor Perry in the polls because of their concerns about the future of their families.
“We are paying attention because we are concerned about our children and our grandchildren, the future and where our country is going,” stated Perry. “We are also thinking about how much better off we are in Texas than in most states.”
Perry encouraged people to get out and vote as there are 37 governorships up for grabs in the country. There is also the prospect of redistricting which may give Texas four more seats in congress Perry said.
“We have to have leaders in Washington that are going to make the tough votes,” stated Perry. “We are facing serious issues and there is so much at stake.”
Perry stated that she and the governor do not take votes for granted.
“I can’t say I feel the total wind at my back. Right now I can’t because we never can until the votes are all counted,” said Perry. “We can’t take it for granted that people are going to vote, but I encourage you to do that.”
In an exclusive interview with BrownwoodNews.com, Perry stated that the Governor is a strong proponent of women in business. She noted how that in recent years, women-owned businesses have increased in numbers.
“He encourages women to get out there,” stated Perry. “He loves strong women and entrepreneurish woman that’s got a business mind.”
When asked how she thinks the outcome of Tuesday’s election will affect Texas, Perry said that we have a strong leadership in Texas that have been successful in bringing jobs to the state and that it is necessary to keep those leaders in office to keep the Texas economy strong.
“We have a strong slate of leaders that know that you can’t bring jobs or create jobs if you don’t keep taxes low and keep that regulatory climate fair and balanced,” said Perry. “That’s so important; we elect our leaders to keep that going.”
As Perry left the event, she urged everyone to exercise their constitutional right, their freedom, to go to the polls and vote today.
