The public is invited to start a new tradition on New Year’s Day 2013 at 2:00 p.m. to start the year off on the right foot, then left foot, any foot – take a First Day Hike at Lake Brownwood State Park.
Looking for a way to walk off that Christmas ham?
Join a park ranger for a First Day Hike on the Texas Oak Trail. The trail follows the lake shore and provides great views of Lake Brownwood. Other parts of the trail highlight the park’s unique rock features. This two-mile trail is easy with some moderate climbs and some steps and is suitable for families.
Park officials state that participants may want to bring a hiking stick, sturdy shoes and drinking water. If there is a large enough crowd, different hikes may be added.
After the hike, enjoy a campfire and hot chocolate at the pavilion in the Council Bluff campground. Hikers are invited to continue to explore on the park’s other trails, or bring a fishing pole and enjoy free fishing in the state park.
