This Sunday afternoon, First Baptist Church of Brownwood will break ground on the first facility upgrade in nearly 50 years. The church is entering into a multi-phase building project, the first phase of which will add parking space and upgrade the current facility.
Dr. Rodney McGlothlin, pastor of the church, said “Church buildings need to be like the gospel itself, open and accessible to everyone. This project, when completed, will do that.”
During the first phase, a parking lot will be added at the corner of Fisk and East Depot Street. Also, the children’s education facility will be upgraded, and easier access to the sanctuary will be provided.“You cannot remodel a fifty year old house without spending more than the original purchase price. It is where your family lives, loves, and grows. This is our home,” said McGlothlin,
The schedule of events for Sunday morning is Sunday School at 9:30, worship at 10:50 with the groundbreaking immediately following. After the groundbreaking ceremony, the church and its guests will enjoy lunch together in the church’s Fellowship Hall. All current and former members, as well as the community, are invited to attend. The church is located at 208 Austin Avenue, across the street from Howard Payne University.
