champscamplogoFirst Baptist Church Brownwood will offer Champs Camp again this year for children in the Brownwood area.  They have had 10 years of successful sports camp in a Christian atmosphere and many families have come to equate Spring Break with Champs Camp.  With a reputation for excellent programming and great facilities, the best thing about this camp is the coaching and personal attention each student receives.  The church is expecting 70 students from college campuses across Texas (HPU, Texas A&M, UTD, Lamar, and Blinn) to gather at FBC Brownwood for a week of fun and ministry.  These students come with coaching experience, strong faith in Jesus Christ, and a desire to help kids grow.

Champs Camp was created as a sports-based Christian day camp designed to aid families who have a need for child care during the week of Spring Break.  For the past decade the program has been limited to children from kindergarten through 6th grade.

This year, they are offering a new component for 7th-8th graders:  Champs Camp VARSITY.  Students in this group will gain leadership skills as they assist leaders with children and then move to their own activities with youth games and life application.  All 7th-8th grade students are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this first year of CC Varsity.

Celeste Church, Interim Children’s Ministry Director at FBC, stated that each day at Champs Camp children will be taught basic principles of four sports:  football, basketball, soccer and volleyball.  While church members will be the primary support mechanism for the event, students of Howard Payne University, A&M University, UT Dallas, and Lamar University will give their Spring Break week to help Brownwood kids have a great week.

Pre-registration for the event will continue through March 9th and opening day of the camp in Monday, March 10th.  Parents can pre-register their children by visiting the church website at www.fbcbrownwood.org, and clicking on the Champs Camp link.  Children can also be pre-registered by calling the church office at 646-8505.  While pre-registration is helpful, children can also be registered at the door Monday morning.

Cost for the event is $58 for one child, and $53 for each additional child in a family if registered before March 3rd.  After that point, the fee is $68 for one child and $63 for each additional child in a family. The fee for Middle School students (7th-8th) is $40 per student.  Each child will need to bring a sack lunch, and should be brought to “The Brick” behind FBC Brownwood by 8:00 AM.  Hours for the day-long event are 7:45 AM to 5:15 PM, allowing parents to drop off before 8:00 AM and pick up shortly after 5:00 PM as necessary.  For more information, visit the church’s website, or call 646-8505.
