With more than six brush fires over the weekend, Brown County Commissioners are seeking reinstatement of a burn ban.
At Monday morning’s Commissioners Court meeting, Commissioner Steve Adams of Precinct 1 reported several grass fires over the weekend, including a large brush fire along the Mills County line on CR 254 that took approximately 7 hours for area fire departments to extinguish on Sunday.
Adams also stated that there were a few suspicious fires along the road that were being investigated.
“We may have had some help setting fires out there, so there is an investigation going on,” stated Adams.
Lack of rain and windy days have been of concern to commissioners.
“We have had our first freeze so there is a lot of dry dead grass,” stated Joel Kelton, Commissioner of Precinct 2.
Consideration of the burn ban will be on the agenda for the next Brown County Commissioners’ Court meeting to be held on November 15th.
