A house fire threatened the neighborhood in the Shamrock Shores subdivision at Lake Brownwood overnight and spread to four nearby structures around midnight. Multiple area fire departments helped to battle the blaze.
Fire Marshal Buddy Preston reported that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation.
The call came in around 11:30pm Tuesday night, reporting that there was a house fire in the 6900 block of Turner Drive. A woman was reported to still be inside the home when neighbors saw the smoke and flames. Witnesses state the woman and owner of the home, identified as 31-year-old Mamie Holland Stovall, was the only occupant of the house at the time and was highly inebriated. A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene to find Stovall sitting inside a Guardian EMS ambulance while the fire marshal was trying to ask her about the incident.
“It was very obvious that Stovall was very upset about the fire, but I also observed that she would burst into aggressive fits towards Marshal Preston when he would question her,” stated the deputy.
Stovall continued use expletives at the EMT and the deputy and at one point raised her hand in an aggressive manner to Preston, the report states. After being warned about her abusive and profane language and continued verbal abuse of the emergency responders along with the aggressive action, Stovall was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and taken to the Brown County Jail.
The fire was extinguished after approximately two hours, and then rekindled at 6:30am on Wednesday morning and again at 10:30am. Fire crews sprayed fire retardant foam on the “hot spots” of the area, officials report.
Structures destroyed included the Stovall home, a lean-to barn or carport, a travel trailer that was being dismantled and two other structures, according to Preston. No injuries were reported. As the fire spread, trees were burnt along with a grass fire which was about a half acre in size.
