Update – Friday, November 13, 2015 – Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston reports that the fire that destroyed the home in the 1400 block of Avenue I Wednesday night was caused by an overloaded extension cord.

Preston said that 4 adults lived in the home and 2 were home at the time of the fire.  All escaped without injury.  He also said that 2 adult dogs perished in the fire along with 3 puppies.  A 4th puppy was initially rescued from the fire but had to be put down later by animal control because of injuries from the fire.

Original Story – Brownwood Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1400 block of Avenue I Wednesday night which resulted in the total loss of the home.

The fire began at approximately 11:45 p.m., and the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.  All occupants of the home were reported to have escaped the blaze.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Marshal Buddy Preston.

Early Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to provide assistance battling the fire.  BFD also called in off duty firemen to help.  Brownwood Police and Allegiance EMS were also dispatched to assist at the scene.
