Update 6:00pm: Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston determined that the fire which consumed the mobile home was an accidental fire. According to Preston, the fire was caused by an electric heater.
“It either got knocked over or a dog may have drug something into it,” said Preston.
Original Article: Fire destroyed the home of a couple and their 5 children Sunday evening on Neal Drive, in the Shamrock Shores neighborhood near Lake Brownwood.The mobile home fire was reported around 5:20pm Sunday evening and the home fully engulfed as firefighters arrived. Although the home was a total loss, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Residents Chris Greene and Michelle Moreno and their kids were at a friend’s house when the fire started.
Greene reported that he was able to come to the house and save all but one of the family’s dogs. That one dog, Trevor, was found shaken but unharmed inside the home about an hour after the fire started. A firefighter rescued the dog hiding behind a corner cabinet.
“I ran into the house and pulled all of the dogs out of the house that I could,” said Greene. “I couldn’t get to the last one, but it ended up he was alright. That was the lucky thing.”
Moreno stated, “We told them where he would hide and he went straight in there and that’s where they found him.”
Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston was on scene and said no cause of the fire could be determined at this time.
The home is a total loss for the family and Red Cross is working to help them with immediate needs. Those wishing to make any type of donation to help the family may contact the Red Cross.
Fire units from Lake Brownwood Bridge Volunteer Fire Department and Bangs Volunteer Fire Department were on scene for almost two hours. Guardian EMS was also on scene in case of injuries.
