The Brownwood Fire Department was called to the 3500 block of 4th Street Saturday night to a report of a house fire.

At approximately 8:40pm, a neighbor reported seeing flames through the window of the back room of the frame home and called for the fire department.  No one was home at the time of the fire.

The Brownwood Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire and made sure there were no active flames in the attic of the home.   The fire was contained to the back room of the house; however there was smoke damage throughout the home. The Early Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the call.

As of Saturday night, the cause of the fire was unknown and is under investigation.  The Red Cross is assisting the family with immediate needs.

Photos show the Brownwood firefighters checking the house after the fire was extinguished.
