Funeral services for Fern V. Thornton, 99, of Brownwood will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10 AM at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Mrs. Thornton passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
Fern was born December 29, 1919 in Granite, Oklahoma to Hugh and Mamie (Oldfield) Vaughan. The oldest of five girls, she attended grade school in Granite, completed high school in Lake Creek and graduated from Oklahoma Women’s College in 1940. At age 22, she married John P. Thornton; and they traveled many states throughout the years as part of the ministry service. She enjoyed the beauty of our country.
Those left behind to cherish her memories include her son, Stephen V. Thornton of Riverton, Wyoming; two grandchildren, Lara T. Dudek of Dripping Springs and Brian Thornton of Santa Clara, California; two great grandchildren, Isabelle Dudek and Nicholas T. Dudek of Dripping Springs and sister, Verna Daughtry of Prosper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, daughter, Susan Thornton and sister, Lois Vines.
