Emergency responders were called to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle accident between Zephyr and Mullin on Hwy 183S/84E Wednesday morning. The location was 8 miles north of Mullin, just one mile into Mills County.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety officials, a Toyota Tundra pickup was traveling southbound when a Ford 500 in the northbound crossed over the dividing line of the highway, causing a head-on collision in the southbound shoulder of the highway at 7:34 a.m.
The female driver of the Ford 500, identified as 46-year-old Maria Martineau of Austin, was pronounced dead on the scene and the male driver of the Toyota Tundra, identified as 35-year-old Matthew Harrison of Ballinger, was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where he later passed away.
The cause of the accident is unknown and currently under investigation by DPS Trooper Michael Tatum of Lampasas.
