The Family Services Center recently presented their Nice Parent Award to Shauntel McGlothin. The Nice Parent Award is given by the FSC Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) in an effort to offer a bit of praise to those they caught being a good parent.
The approximately 10-member committee gave out 50 tickets to these good parents performing deeds or actions that exemplify good parenting. Some examples of this behavior are being polite to their children in challenging situations, putting down their phones to give their attention while eating out at a restaurant, or giving encouraging words of praise at sporting or church events, etc. Parents were also observed on social media and at school events.
Those receiving tickets were entered into a drawing for a special summer gift package valued at $200. This package included a cooler full of Dr. Peppers, 6 Texas Ranger tickets a $50 gas card, 3- $25 food gift cards, travel games, sunscreen and two YETI tumblers.
Weakley Watson Sporting Goods donated the tumblers, Food Plaza (PF&E) donated the gas card, BHCS Home Health donated the cooler and the three food cards and Family Services Center added the other items from their Parent Store. The winner was drawn at KOXE and announced live on the radio, explained FSC Family Educator Judy Bullard.
The contest was rewarding to both parents being recognized and the FSC PAC members who witnessed the reactions parents had when being recognized in this way. Parents and FSC staff learned that a little praise and encouragement goes a long way.
