An early morning house fire about 3 miles southwest of Brownwood completely destroyed a home Friday.

Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said that the fire started a little after 5am Friday morning inside the home off of Country Road 201.  One female occupant was home at the time the fire started and was able to get out safely.  Her son had already left for work by the time the fire started, Preston said.

The Brownwood Fire Department, Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Department, Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, Bangs Volunteer Fire Department, and Lake Dam Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the fire.  Preston said the fire was under control just after daylight.

Preston said that the family lost everything as a result of the fire and the Red Cross is helping them with clothing and other immediate needs.   Preston also said that one dog got out of the home safely.

Preston did not state the cause of the fire and it is still under investigation.
