An early morning house fire in the 1500 block of 3rd Street in Brownwood left a family without a home on Christmas Eve.   The entire house was gutted by the blaze and all of the contents were destroyed.  No injuries were reported, but several family pets did not survive.

Five people lived in the house including Brownwood’s animal control officer Nick Ferguson; Amy Abernathy, the kennel manager and cruelty investigator at the Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter; and three girls ages 17, 15, and 1.  The local chapter of the Red Cross has put the family in a hotel room and helped them with immediate needs.

The Brownwood Police Department at the Law Enforcement Center located at 1050 W. Commerce is taking monetary donations as well as clothes, cell phones, makeup, baby bottles, and other items to help replace what the family lost during the fire.  Use the telephone outside of the Law Enforcement Center and tell dispatch that you have a donation for the fire victims.

The Brownwood Fire Department is currently accepting monetary donations to help this family as well.  Residents can stop by Station 1 at the corner of Austin and Main Street to make a monetary donation.

Those who wish to make a donation but are unable to get out during the holidays can call BrownwoodNews.com at 325-642-5472 or 325-642-6906 and we will have someone pick them up and have them delivered to the Law Enforcement Center.
