Brownwood News – Just north of Goldthwaite, on U.S. Highway 84, is a new sign designating the area as DPS Sgt. William Karl Keesee Memorial Highway.
While on duty, and in route to the Texas border to assist with Operation Secure Texas, Sergeant Keesee was killed in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 in Mills County on October 29, 2015. Sergeant Keesee had over 25 years of service with the DPS, most of which he served in the Brownwood area.
On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, the Texas Department of Public Safety held a Memorial Highway Dedication Ceremony in the Goldthwaite High School Gym.

Seated in chairs on the gym floor, the Keesee family was joined by numerous law enforcement agencies including Brown County DPS Troopers, Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Brownwood Police Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, TxDOT employees, Mills County S.O. and several other agencies. Goldthwaite students also attended the ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of the family was Sgt. Keesee’s son, Karlton, himself a DPS Trooper.
