Against a display of flags representing Texans tragically lost each year to alcohol-related crashes, the Texas Department of Transportation will continue its efforts to curb impaired driving through its new Faces of Drunk Driving safety campaign and will make a presentation in Brown County at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 16th.
Officials from the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Public Safety, Brown County District Attorney’s office and other representatives will discuss the impact of drunken driving on victims and their families. A victim’s letter will be read to the audience, and flags will be placed at the event site to represent victims who have lost their lives in crashes involving intoxicated drivers.
The event will take place at the Brown County Courthouse, 200 S. Broadway, Brownwood (event will take place under the back porch of the courthouse if it rains).
Last year, 1,170 people were killed and 9,458 were seriously injured in alcohol-related crashes in Texas. Each of those statistics represents thousands of lives negatively impacted by people choosing to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. As part of the drunk-driving awareness campaign, the TxDOT press conference also will feature information on the new Faces of Drunk Driving website recently launched at www.FacesofDrunkDriving.com. The site shares the stories of more than a dozen people affected by drunk driving, offers tips for finding a sober ride home and allows visitors to tell their own stories about the consequences of driving under the influence.
