Evelyn Queen Pierce went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, January 26, 2015. She was preceded in death by her dad, Daddy Bill Queen, her mom Katherine (Kitty) Brooks Queen, her sister Edna Patton, and brothers, Cecil, Bryce and Bud Queen.

Evelyn is survived by three children Elwyn (Pete) Pierce, Charlotte Pierce and Patsy Pierce all raised in Floydada. She has seven grandchildren; Dawn, Steve, Kirk, Sharla, Shelli, Tisha and Clint; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was born in Dill, Oklahoma in 1922. A few months after birth, the family moved to the Dougherty Community in Floyd County, where her dad worked for Francis Dougherty. Five years later they moved to the Lakeview Community.

After completing high school in Lakeview at the age of 17, she married JC Pierce from Crosbyton. During the war, JC was in the US Coast Guard serving for 3 1/2 years in Seattle, WA with Evelyn and son Elwyn and in 1949, they moved to Floydada.

Evelyn worked at the Tastee Freeze owned by George Mize for over 10 years where she watched most of the Floydada kids (her children’s ages) grow up. She loved them all.  In later years Evelyn taught Sunday School Calvary Baptist Church for over 20 years drove the senior citizens bus for 10 years and worked for many years at the Floyd County Museum.

 

Evelyn will be remembered by her children and friends as a loving mother that devoted her entire life to her children and grandchildren. She will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery beside her dad and mom, sister and brother.
