He was born July 25, 1940 in Coleman, the son of the late Beauford and Addie Keith Hawkins. He was married to Peggy Galloway on August 25, 1957 and they were married 40 years. He later married Natasha Khais in Brownwood of whom he had been married to for 8 years. He had lived in Brownwood most of his life.
Eugene was known for his warm smile and loving kindness and as a very popular and familiar face at Underwood’s Barbeque where he had worked for over 43 years. He was always very active in his church having been a bus driver, Sunday School teacher, and involved in youth ministry at Faith Baptist Church. Later he was actively involved in ministry at Southside Baptist Church where he served on many committees and in mission work in the Ukraine. He was a member of Coggin Ave. Baptist Church at the time of his death. His main goal in life was to lead people to Christ.
Another favorite hobby of Eugene was collecting and restoring antique cars, many of which were show pieces that he was extremely proud of. He loved talking about the cars and their history.
Eugene will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends and those of whom he has helped in life. He certainly was a person with a servant’s heart.
