Howard Payne University and the Central Texas Training Coalition present two timely fall workshops, Ethics and Family Food and Nutrition which will be presented on December 9th at the Family Services Center, located at 901 Avenue B in Brownwood. 

Registration will begin at 8:30am on December 9th.  The first session, there will be refreshments served at the morning and afternoon breaks.

Session one will last from 9:00am until 12:00 noon and is entitled Soul of Ethics; Explorations into Codes of Professional and Personal Conduct.  The presenter is Ralph Kantor, a private consultant from Abilene, Texas.  Ralph provides training in the areas of Ethics, Conflict Management, Organizational Development, Family Relations, Executive Coaching and Supervision and Management Skills.  This session will focus on various aspects of ethics and ethical issues as it relates to children, families, colleagues, community and society. 

Mr. Kantor will explore principles of public service ethics and the Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment which is a position statement of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  He will explain the core values, conceptual framework and principles of this code.

In addition, this session will discuss ethical values and principles as well as ethical dilemmas that may arise out of conflicting obligations and how to implement ethical decision making protocol to resolve these ethical dilemmas.

Session two will last from 1:30pm until 4:30pm and is entitled Family Food & Nutrition.  The presenters will be Jenna Anding, Associate Professor & Extension Specialist-Texas A&M; Lisa Dick, RD, LD; and Daniel Graham, Extension Master Gardener & Brownwood Community Garden Director.

This session will explore various components of nutrition as it relates to the family.  Dr. Jenna Anding is Associate Department Head of the Department of Nutrition & Food Science with Texas AgriLife Extension Service.  Her presentation, “When the Cupboard is Bare….Food Insecurity in Texas” will explore the issue of Food insecurity in Texas and its nutrition and health impacts on children and the family.

Lisa Dick is a Registered Dietician who works with the local WIC office as well as the Brownwood Community Clinic.  Lisa will cover nutrition and how foods affect behaviors in children to include ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, etc.

Daniel Graham is the coordinator of the Brownwood Area Community Garden and a Texas AgriLife Extension Service Master Gardener volunteer.  Daniel will show you how to supplement your food supply with simple gardening methods.  Daniel will also discuss various aspects of the community garden to include community service & job opportunities.
