In observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Ark Domestic Violence Shelter is providing a special exhibit to pay tribute to the lives lost to domestic violence.

The “Empty Shoes” will be on display at many locations throughout Brown, Comanche and Coleman counties.   The display will open in Brown County at Howard Payne University’s Girling Center for Social Justice October 7th and will run through October 11th.  The display features a pair of shoes for each of the Central Texas women and children who have died in the last several years as a result of such violence.

The display will also be at the Coleman Public Library and the Comanche County Courthouse October 7th-11th.  Other locations the display can be seen in the coming weeks include:

October 14-18

Heartland Mall, 300 Early Blvd. in Early (display will run through Oct. 20th)
Coleman County Medical Center, 310 Pecos Street in Coleman

October 21-25

Brownwood High School Student Center, 2100 Slayden St. in Brownwood
Coleman County Courthouse, 100 W. Liveoak St. in Coleman

October 28-31

Brownwood Public Library, 600 Caregie in Brownwood
Coleman Chamber of Commerce, 218 S. Commercial Ave. in Coleman

Howard Payne University will also hold a candlelight vigil on Thursday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m., outside the Girling Center on the Academy of Freedom campus. The community is invited to attend to help honor the memory of the victims.
