Another record breaking event was seen by Good Samaritan Ministries at their fourth annual Empty Bowls Project which was held on Thursday, March 28th.
Raising $16,500, the Empty Bowls Project brought in approximately $400 more than last year which had tripled the amount raised in 2011.
“At this year’s, we raised $16,500. That’s a bit up from last year and we will tithe to Food for the Hungry from that total,” said Misty Bowers of Good Samaritan Ministries.Bowers stated that around 1,000 people came through the doors at the event in the Brownwood Coliseum and more than 100 gallons of soup was served. The small amount of soup remaining from the event was given to the Salvation Army.
“This year’s event was a complete success and we are so pleased with the response from our community, our sponsors, restaurants, volunteers and media coverage,” said Bowers. “Ninety percent of the proceeds will go back into GSM’s food ministries: Food Pantry, Food for Thought Program and The Deer Project.”
