Brownwood News – On Thursday May 23, 2019 Woodland Heights Elementary will be conducting an evacuation drill for the campus at 1:30 p.m.

During the Evacuation Drill, students will be safely escorted along a designated evacuation route to one of our pre-determined evacuation sites.  At the conclusion of the drill, all students will be escorted back to the school; you may see staff in safety vests in the neighborhoods around the campus as well as a few emergency vehicles.

After school pick-up and transportation procedures for students will not be affected by the drill.

The students and staff at the Brownwood Independent School District practice emergency drills several times throughout the school year to include the following:

  • FIRE DRILLS
  • LOCKDOWN DRILLS
  • SHELTER-IN-PLACE DRILLS
  • EVACUATION DRILLS

For the safety of everyone involved and to maintain order, we respectfully ask that you would abide by the following during these drills:

  • Please wait until the drill is complete to visit the campus
  • Don’t flood the school offices with phone calls (as they will be busy with the drill)
  • Please do not contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media (as they will be busy with the drill)
  • Avoid social media posts. (If necessary, accurate and important information will be disseminated through our automated system as soon as possible.)

Please make sure that your contact information is current at all times so that you can be reached without delay in the event of an emergency. In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive notification where to pick up your child as soon as practicable. Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work.

A Briefing for the community will held on Monday, May 20 at 5:15 p.m. in the library of Woodland Heights Elementary (4100 4th street) for any anyone interested learning more about emergency drills within the district.
