Elvera Jones, age 83, of Brownwood passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00am Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Cowboy Cemetery. Visitation is set for Friday, December 31, 2010 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Elvera was born on March 28, 1927 in Mercury, TX, to Jesse and Mamie Farris. She married Walter Jones on March 8, 1944 in Brownwood, TX. They were together for a wonder 61 years. Elvera has resided in Brownwood since 1955.
She was a member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Elvera was also a member of the Brownwood Lion Mothers and the Aggie Mothers Club. She was very supportive and involved in her children’s education.
Elvera worked as a seamstress and sewed for the public for about 25 years. She and Walter were also the custodians at Austin Avenue Church of Christ for about 18 years. Elvera’s church and family were the two most important aspects of her life. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her friends and family. It is said Elvera’s hospitality could not be beat; she was always ready to welcome anybody. She had a personality that was very friendly and outgoing. Elvera never met a stranger. The family requests that any donations be made to the Cherokee Home for Children.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband Walter Jones, her parents Jesse and Mamie Farris, her daughter Sandra Timmons, 5 brothers, and 1 sister.
Survivors include her children Jerry Jones and wife Betty of Brownwood, Kevan Jones and wife Kristy of Grovetown, GA., and Delana Howe and Mike Rust of Burleson, TX; her brother Frank Farris of Victoria, TX; her sister Thelma McDowell of Brady, TX; her grandchildren: Debi Trevino, Denisa Seher, Diane Davis, David Jones, Kurt Jones, Andrea Noe, Magan Jones, Emma Jones, Jesse Jones, and Ryan Howe; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
