poindexderElroy Poindexter,  loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at his home in Early, Texas surrounded by his loving family at the age 70.  Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early.  Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral Home.

Elroy was born on November 19, 1943 in Hartson, Oklahoma to Clarence and Ruby Mae Riggs Poindexter.  He was married to Ronda Portnajamer in Mills County on September 8, 1981 and was a mechanic prior to his failing health.  Elroy has been a resident of Early for the past eight years and had previously lived in Goldthwaite for forty two years.  He will be remembered for being happy, loving, caring,  positive, compassionate and never minded lending a helping hand to anyone in need.  He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Ronda Poindexter of Early; nine children Kenzie Poindexter of Early, Robby Poindexter of Early, Douglas Portnajmer and wife Gina of Bedford, Erocia Donahoo and husband Roland of Brownwood, Veronica Burgin and husband Stephen of Abilene, Denise Johnson of Goldthwaite, Kevin Poindexter and wife  Rosa of Goldthwaite, Tommy Poindexter and wife Denise of Killeen, Tracie Savage and husband Richard of Brownwood, Candace Terrell of Fort Worth; grandchildren Ashlee Emerson, Shanah Salinas, Daniel Salinas, Nikki DeLa Hoya, Kevin Poindexter Jr., D.J. Patterson, Nate Thomas, Davin Johnson, Thomas “Buddy” ElRoy Poindexter, Michael, Jesse and Damon Portnajmer, Shaylee Donahoo and Lenzie Burgin; great grandchildren McKennah Stewart, Ernest, Joel and Addie DeLa Hoya; sisters Lorrine Hammer of Stone Bluff, OK, Linda Tomlinson of Missouri; a brother Gary Poindexter of Haskell, OK;  sister-in-law Sharon Poer and husband Randy of Brownwood; brother-in-law Tim Portnajamer and wife Gina of Early; father-in-law Frank Portnajamer and Maggie Kanadda; mother-in-law Betty Jordy and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ruby Mae Poindexter and Clarence Poindexter; one son Elroy “Buddy” Poindexter Jr.; grandsons Juan Anthony Salinas, Gabriel Lawson; granddaughter Shantee Kitchens and by eight Siblings.
