Mrs. Wood was born Oct. 6, 1931 in Odessa, Texas to Earnest and Lena Mae Wescott Chapman. She married Billy Mack Wood Feb. 28, 1948 in Rising Star, Texas.
She lived in Longview, different parts of west Texas, Odessa and Big Spring before moving to Lake Brownwood. They moved into Brown County in the early 1980s and were among the families who started the Lake Brownwood First United Methodist Church. Bill and Dean Wood were avid dancers even through their elderly years dancing the night away at their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Wood, known as Dean, was an accomplished artist in several mediums including oil and acrylic paint. She enjoyed sewing and was talented in a wide array of arts and crafts, the results of which she often shared with friends and family. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and managed the Little League Ball Park Concession in Big Spring.
She was a professional musician and vocalist for many years playing keyboards and sharing her sultry, smooth voice in song. This is a talent she shared with her only son, Danny, and she spent many days and nights in Danny’s teen years to transport him and his drums from one venue to the next for him to play in his band.
Mrs. Wood is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son and wife Danny Lee and Patti Peck Wood of Rising Star, Texas, a sister Evelyn Clarey of Breckenridge, Texas and two nieces and a host of friends who have loved her.
