commissionercourtarticlepicFriday, the Brown County Commissioner’s Court held a special meeting.  On the agenda was a request by the Elections Administrator Suzy Young for additional personnel before the Primary election.

Young along with two other Elections Office employees came to explain the need for this request.   Due to a problem with the State’s database that the county currently uses for voter registration, a back up file is being compiled before elections begin. Because this is a very slow and tedious process, the Elections Office explained it was necessary to have more employees to accomplish this task in time for early voting.  It was asked that three part-time temporary employees be hired, possibly working full time hours and even over time if needed.  The estimated cost for these additional positions totaled approximately $15,300.

After a lengthy and at times animated debate, Commissioners approved a reduced amount of $10,000 for 2 temporary employees.

The next Brown County Commissioners Court meeting will be on Tuesday, February 2nd at the Brown County Courthouse.
