A group of student leaders from Early High School is seeking assistance from the community in helping some of the area’s most precious residents through “Project Remember.”
“Project Remember” believes society should value all ages in the communities, from the very young to the very old. However, the oldest people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities often feel isolated and excluded.Partnered with the Early Chamber of Commerce and Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN) Leadership Program, “Project Remember” is a service project created by Early High School incoming seniors, Danielle Contreras and Maggie Yantis. After being asked to identify and resolve a challenge in Brown County, the two have decided to implement music therapy to patients residing at Early’s Care Nursing Home and Rehab Facility for those who suffer with dementia and loneliness. Their mission being to build a bridge to the generations that came before them. Contreras and Yantis, along with a team of fellow Early High School students, will begin the process of identifying music that Care residents had/have a personal connection to in order to create personalized playlists for every resident.
The students plan to execute this project for years to come but need help from the community. Contreras and Yantis ask that the community donate to the cause by contributing used or new MP3 and record players, iTunes and Google Play cards, or a donation that can be made out to Project Remember. Chick-Fil-A’s owner, Brent Gooch, has partnered with the students and will provide a drop off for donations at Chick-Fil-A at Heartland Mall. Every donation, big or small, will benefit a resident’s life with peace of mind and remembrance of the past.
