Early High School’s Longhorn Marching Band participated in the UIL Conference 2A Area marching contest at Belton High School on Saturday, October 26th.
According Early High School Band Director Jason Jones, the EHS Marching Band placed 8th out of 27 bands in the preliminary competition and the top 10 bands were taken into the final competition. Finals are a new competition, as no scores carry over from preliminary competition.
Six of the finalist bands had performed in the finals and Early was just two bands away from taking the field; however inclement weather resulted in the finals being canceled. Jones explained that due to the cancellation of the finals, the preliminary results were made final. The top 5 bands are selected to continue to the UIL state marching competition at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.
Although they didn’t make it to state competition, Jones was very proud of his students.
“I couldn’t be prouder of what this group has done. For almost 3 months, they have been working endlessly to put on an amazing performance, and this is for sure what they did,” Jones said. “They are a fun group to work with and it is a privilege and honor to be their director. I am truly blessed.”
