Funeral services for Edward L. King, Jr., age 92, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial with military honors will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.

Mr. King passed from this life on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Edward Leon King, Jr. was born on June 12, 1926 in Brownwood to Edward L. and Estelle Ruth (Grooms) King.  He attended Brownwood schools and graduated from Brownwood High School.  Following graduation, he joined the US Army during World War II and served in the Philippines and Japan.  When he returned home after the war, he continued managing King Food Market along with his father and brother James.  The Kings were not only known for their meat market, chili and barbeque, but also for helping those families in need in the neighborhood.

On October 2, 1948, Edward married Avis Embrey in Brownwood.  They would go on to be married for 64 years until her passing in 2012.  They were longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church.

Edward is survived by a daughter, Susan Copeland and her husband Luther of Stephenville; two sons, Edward King, III and his wife Judy of Abilene and Charles King and his wife Becky of Brownwood; eight grandchildren, Joe Stieber, Ryan King, Rob King, Trevin King, Jennifer Gauer, Cody Copeland, Dr. Lance Cotton, Lindy Garret; eight great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Adelia King of Brownwood, a niece, Debbie Chrisman and a nephew, John Ed Fortune.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Avis King, grandson, Russell King, a brother, James King, and a sister, Emma Overton.
