Funeral services for Edward “Beezer” Day, age 90, of Brownwood, will be at 2:00 PM, Monday at First Baptist Church of Brownwood. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Day passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
Edward Alan “Beezer” Day was born in Brownwood on October 28, 1924 to Charles and Doakie Crawford Day. Ed graduated from Brownwood High School and attended a year at the University of Texas before being drafted into the US Army. He served in World War II and was the recipient of several awards and medals including the Purple Heart medal. He enjoyed attending annual reunions of his Army unit.
Ed married Virginia Oakley on September 10, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri. They returned to Brownwood following the war where he worked at his father’s machine shop. Ed enjoyed farming and ranching up into his late 80s. He also enjoyed traveling with Virginia. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Brownwood and the Butler Sunday School Class. Ed also served his community as a member of the Lions Club, as a Brownwood ISD school board trustee, and as a member of the board of the Brown County Appraisal District.Ed is survived by two daughters, Robin Nance and husband Jim of Brownwood and Cheryl Kirby and husband Wayne Parish of Austin; a son, Alan Day and wife Janene; nine grandchildren, Stacey McKee, Christian Nance, Scott Kirby, Lance Kirby, Amber Gibbs, Matt Kirby, Autumn Miller, Justin Kirby, and Brendan Day and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sue Alice Satterfield, and a brother, Charles Day, Jr.
