Edgilee Parker, 88, of Arlington, Texas, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The oldest child of Edward Russell Hayes and Addie Elizabeth Moore, she was born on July 18, 1924, in Sweetwater, Texas.
She graduated from Gustine High School in 1942, and was married to Alphus Lee Caraway while still in high school at age seventeen. A son, Donald Lee Caraway, was born to them in June of 1943. Alphus Lee Caraway died in combat in Germany late in World War II. During the latter stages of the war Edgilee worked at a defense manufacturing facility in Garland, Texas.
A young widow with an infant son, she returned to Brownwood after the war, where she met Halley Philip Parker, a veteran of WWII. They were married in June of 1946. Over the next 27 years they moved many times as he pursued first a degree from Texas A&M University, then a career with the Soil Conservation Service. A son, Robert Edward Parker was born to them in June of 1949, followed by a daughter, Susan Elaine Parker, in July of 1956. Halley Philip died in November of 1973 while they were living in Pennsylvania. Edgilee relocated to Brownwood in 1987, and spent 17 happy years there until moving to Arlington, Texas, in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by a brother, Russell Hayes, of Gustine, Texas, and a sister, Nida Sue Hayes Daniel, of Hamilton, Texas. She is survived by a son, Donald Caraway, and his wife Marylyn, of Round Rock, Texas; a son Robert Parker of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Susan Scheid and her husband, Geoffrey, and two grandsons, Geoffrey and James Scheid of Arlington, Texas.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, July 06, 2013 at 11:00am at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
