Several organizations have scheduled family activities this Easter weekend including egg hunts and an Easter buffet, all of which are open to the public.
Saturday, April 7
*11:00-The Great Easter Egg Hunt- Coggin Park
Wendlee Broadcasting, KQBZ, The Breeze 96.9 FM, is hosting their 4th Annual Great Easter Egg Hunt in Brownwood at Coggin Park Saturday, April 7th for kids ages 7 and under. The first hunt will begin at 11:00am. Separate hunts for each age group will be held: 3 and under, 4-5 and 6-7. More than 2,000 children are expected. Be sure to bring an Easter basket or sack for each child participating.
All events are free thanks to sponsors. Children are sure to enjoy the Brownwood Fire Department’s fire trucks which will be on display, bounce house, the inflatable obstacle course, pony rides and refreshments from the Dr. Pepper trailer. Bring a camera to take pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Bunny. There will also be a classic car show by Heartland Cruisers. The “Bunny with the Money” will also be given away to a lucky winner at the event. The winner will receive a huge stuffed bunny with a basket full of candy and toys plus $100 cash.
*1:45pm – FBC Bangs Community Wide Easter Egg Hunt
A community wide Easter Egg Hunt in Bangs will be hosted by the First Baptist Church of Bangs on Saturday, April 7 and the community is invited to join in the fun. The hunt will be at the First Baptist Church located at 401 S. 2nd Street in Bangs. Registration begins at 1:00pm and lasts through 1:30 pm. The hunt will start at 1:45pm. Participants are encouraged to return to the fellowship hall after the hunt to enjoy FREE snow cones, face painting & balloons. *11:00am-2:00pm: Good Samaritan Ministries Annual Easter Buffet
Good Samaritan Ministries’ annual Easter Buffet held at the Beadel Dining Hall on the Howard Payne University campus. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend Easter services and then bring the whole family out to HPU and join GSM for an amazing lunch provided by Don Green and the Sodexo staff. The meal costs $10 for adults ages 13 and older. Children ages five to 12 are $5 and children under five eat free! This year, credit and debit cards will also be accepted: MasterCard, Visa, Discover Card and American Express.
On the menu this year: carved baked ham, chicken fried steak, rotisserie herbed chicken, baked tilapia, chicken nuggets, oven roasted red potatoes, fresh whipped potatoes, rice pilaf, shrimp Alfredo pasta, green bean casserole, buttered corn, glazed carrots, Prince William vegetable blend, assorted dinner rolls, assorted salads and desserts.
Last year 886 diners came out for lunch and just under $9,300 was raised. All of the money raised at the Easter Buffet will go toward the annual Feinstein Challenge, a hunger awareness campaign during the months of March and April. There were a few hand-painted bowls left over from last week’s Empty Bowls Project, and those bowls will be available for purchase at the Easter Buffet.
*2:00pm: Bangs Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt
The Bangs Lions Club will be hosting its first ever Easter Egg Hunt 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at the Bangs city park. Organizers state there will be approximately 500 eggs at city park, according to organizers. There will be an overall grand prize winner and a winner for three age brackets. There will also be some fun for the adults. Contests to see who can guess the number of candies in each of two jars—one filled with jelly beans, the other with Robin Eggs (massively large colored whoppers) will also be held and whoever guesses the number of jelly beans or Robin Eggs wins the goodies and the jars. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos with the kids and families, so be sure to bring a camera.
Volunteers are appreciated: Anyone that would like to help put eggs out at the park can meet at 1 p.m. before the hunt on Sunday.
