About 40 people came and went to the Community Build at East Elementary last Saturday, September 10th. With a lot of help from Waldrop Construction for bringing a front-loader to clear the area, create a foundation, and move wood chips, the new playground purchased with grant money from KaBOOM! was built in one morning with little installation cost.
“A lot of money gets eaten up in shipping and installation,” East principal Nanda Wilbourn said. “We are so grateful for this grant and the community support; we will do whatever we can to make the most of what we’re given.”
Thanks to KaBOOM! and giving members of the Brownwood community, the younger children have their own separate play facility to enjoy their time out of doors.
However, East is still vying for another grant from Parenting.com’s Mom Congress School Transformation Contest, for $20,000 to improve the playground for older children. They are currently in 1st place out of 471 schools, but they still need the help of the community to maintain the position. To vote,
