votebuttonBrown County election officials said that early voting totals show a slow start to city, school board and water district elections with low turnout; however, Saturday they expect to have large numbers.

Elections office officials didn’t seem worried about the turnout, stating that typically early voting numbers are low with high turnout on Election Day for the City of Brownwood elections.  Only 887 votes (plus 30 mail-in ballots) were cast during the early voting period for Brownwood City elections which ended on Tuesday.  Officials said that there are 11,800 eligible voters in the city election and 8000 ballots were ordered.

“I’m sure we’ll use a large amount of those ballots,” said Crystal Molina, Assistant Elections Administrator.  “Historically, there is high turnout on Election Day.”

The Brown County Water Improvement District election had a similar turn out with 647 early votes cast (plus 16 mail-in ballots).    Many voters were not aware of this election as it was not publicized as much as the other elections have been.

“Historically the water board election is not advertised,” Molina stated. “Many citizens in the county become upset when they find out they cannot vote in that election.”

Molina explained how the boundaries of the Brown County Water Improvement District are mainly in the city limits of Brownwood, with an exception of a few outlying neighborhoods, and about half of Early, again mostly in the heart of their city as well.

Early voting totals in other area elections include: Early ISD with 104 early votes cast (plus 2 mail-in ballots); City of Bangs received 49 early votes; Bangs ISD had 89 ballots cast; and May ISD had 28 ballots cast early (plus 2 mail-in ballots).

Election Day for all of these races is Saturday, May 8th.   Click Here for our voters guide for the Brownwood Municipal Elections.
