Early voting in the City of Brownwood’s runoff election between Ed McMillian and Eddie Watson for City Council position of ward 2 is well underway with 288 people voting in person and 20 ballots mailed in as of mid afternoon Wednesday according to Suzy Young, Elections Administrator for Brown County.
The early voting period continues through tonight, ending at 7pm. Election Day is Saturday June 12. Ballots are being cast at Adams Street Community Center located at 511 E. Adams.
Elections officials want to remind everyone to get out and vote today while it is convenient, because Saturday is the Rodeo parade. Some streets will be blocked off in the morning, making driving to the election a bit difficult.“Come by early or after the parade, park and walk over to cast your vote,” said Young. Polls Saturday will be open from 7:00am through 7:00pm.
Young explained, “The whole purpose of a runoff election is so that a larger percentage of the voters get to decide.” So far, the 308 votes cast by mid afternoon on Wednesday were a little more than expected by the elections office and it is hoped there will be a good turnout election day (Saturday).
“Local races are what affect your daily life…to me it is a high priority (to vote in local elections),“ stated Young.
