Several high school marching bands will participate in the 2012 Heart of Texas Marching Festival which will be held this Saturday, October 13th at Longhorn Stadium.
Each band will perform and then the day will be finished off with an exhibition performance from the Howard Payne University Yellow Jacket Band.
“We love having them (HPU Yellow Jacket Band) each year and are very grateful to them for fitting us into their very busy Homecoming schedule,” said Band Booster President Julie Smith.
The schools participating this year are Early, Brownwood, Bangs, Santa Anna, San Saba, Cisco, Breckenridge and Sonora. The first performance will begin at 3:40pm, with Brownwood at 5:40pm, and Early at 6pm, followed directly by HPU.
There will be a table set up for “Shout Outs” to your favorite band member or band. This year a “Fan Favorite” award has been added. For every dollar put in your bands box they will be given a point and the band with the most points at the end of the Festival will win the Fan Favorite award.
Other awards in this year’s contest include Overall Outstanding Band, Overall 1A and 2A Bands, Fan Favorite, Outstanding Percussion, Brass, Woodwinds, Color guard and Drum Majors and each band that receives a 1 rating will also receive a plaque. This is a Pre-UIL contest to give the bands practice and feedback so that they can perfect their performances for the Regional Contest which will be held in Brady on October 20th.
There will be a $2.00 admission fee for adults and students and concessions will be available.
