Brownwood News – Monday, September 2, 2019, The Early TMCN Leadership 2019 Team of Madison Green and Vance-Cady Gordon made a donation of $ $2,331.53 from the proceeds hamburger meal that was held last month. The fire department will use the proceeds of the fund raiser to order new radios and batteries and batteries for existing radios. When the FCC changed frequency requirements it made many of the fire departments current radios obsolete. It is the goal of the fire department to have a radio for each fireman that enters a building for their safety. The department had purchased several radios, but did not have enough funds to purchase all that the radios that were needed. This donation will greatly enhance the safety of all fire fighters working on structure fires.
This year’s team chose to help the Early Volunteer Fire Department raise money for their communication needs. The Early Volunteer Fire Department is responsible for not only responding to fires and medical calls with the city limits of Early, but they also cover 108 square miles of the county, along with offering mutual aid to each fire department within the county.
The Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN) Leadership is a one-of-a-kind program designed to maximize student leadership potential within the community the students live and serve. The students start the program as juniors in high school and are required to plan, organize and complete a project within their community by the beginning of their senior year. This year marks Early’s 5th year participating in the TMCN Leadership program.
Earlier this year, the 2019 Team of Vance-Cady Gordon and Madison Green, representing Early, attended inspiring and engaging presentations from Tutt & Daggs, Inc. Early’s team, along with teams from other communities throughout West Texas were challenged regarding their current level of commitment, educated on the importance of creating value with others and the difference between just being present and being passionate about what you do.
The ultimate outcome of this program is for the students and business mentors to develop and carry out impactful projects within their communities. The team’s project should be a legacy project that is left for their community for many years to come. Past years projects have included the Early mural and the sound garden in McDonald Park, the music project at CARE Nursing & Rehab and the longhorn statue at the high school. This year’s projects will be recognized at the 2019 Texas Midwest Annual Conference in October and participating students will be eligible for scholarships based on the quality and impact of their specific project.
“The Leadership TMCN Program provides students and business leaders exposure and inspiration on various leadership topics, opportunities to network with peer groups from other communities, and direction to develop and implement programs within their community to address a specific issue,” said TMCN Executive Director Kathy Keane “We are proud to recognize the work and accomplishments of these student leaders who exhibit the hope and promise of rural Texas.”
