Early Police Department officials said that they received three reports on Thursday from individuals receiving calls from a group claiming to be Association for Firefighters and Paramedics soliciting funds. A news alert was recently released by the Abilene Fire Department listing the same complaints.
The Early Police Department has been in touch with the Early Fire Chief Chad Hill who has also confirmed this to be a scam.
Anyone that receives these calls where people are soliciting funds are advised to check out the source before giving any money. Generally, local fire and police will make charity or fund raisers publicly known through the media prior to conducting the event.Early Police Department advises anyone who has lost money to a scam call please contact your local law enforcement office and suggest those who receive the call from a possible scam to just hang up and do not give any personal information to the caller.
