Early Police released the following reports regarding seperate incidents involving the apprehension of an illegal immigrant, a DWI and an arrest for marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a Drug-Free Zone.
On Monday 03/29/10 the Early Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Eastover to assist U.S. Border Patrol who was involved in a foot pursuit of an illegal immigrant. Early K-9 Unit consisting of Officer Johnny Brown and his K-9 partner, Tessa, arrived on scene. After briefing with the Border Patrol Agents, Officers learned that one of the fleeing subjects fled into a heavily wooded area near a creek. Officer Brown deployed Tessa on a track for the suspect. After a few minutes Tessa found odor of the fleeing subject and led Officer Brown to him where he was hiding in heavy underbrush. He was successfully detained and placed into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol.
On Monday 03/29/10 Officer Johnny Brown was dispatched to an accident in the 300 block of River Oaks involving a passenger car and a box van truck. Upon arrival, there were no reported injuries. After further investigation, while interviewing one of the drivers, John May* (age 55 of Early, TX) showed signs of Intoxication. After Officer Brown administered a field sobriety test, May was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.
On Tuesday 03/30/10 Sgt. Shawn Dibrell made traffic stop on a black Dodge pickup driven by Billy Shy Drew (age 19 of Early, TX). Officer Keith Varner arrived to assist. During the course of the traffic stop, Officers noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. After finding the paraphernalia, Officer Varner began a search of the vehicle for any additional contraband. After a search of the vehicle, Officer Varner located two bags of marijuana. Officer Varner then placed Billy Shy Drew under arrest where he was charged with Possession of Marijuana < 2 oz in a Drug Free Zone.
