Early Police Chief David Mercer released police reports from weekend arrests in three unrelated incidences.
–At about 7:10 pm on Halloween, Officer Pattimae Furry stopped a white Ford Bronco in the 200 block of Lucus for speeding. While interviewing the driver, Officer Furry discovered the inspection sticker and registration sticker belonged to another vehicle. The driver also did not have insurance. Officer Furry placed the driver, 25-year-old Gabriel Isaac Herrera of Comanche under arrest.
She located a bag of marijuana in Herrera’s shoe upon searching him. Herrera was charged with Driving While License Invalid, No Liability Insurance, Display Wrong Registration, Display Wrong Inspection and Possession of Marijuana.
–Sunday morning at 12:30 am Officer Keith Varner stopped a blue and white van in the 100 hundred block of Early Blvd for suspicion of DWI. Due to the dark window tint and it being night time, Officer Varner could not actually see the driver. When he approached the van there was no driver in the seat.
The female in the passenger seat and a female in the back seat were removed from the van and questioned & both were very intoxicated according to the police report. The front passenger, 26-year-old Patricia Kay Barnett of Brownwood, stated that a man was driving but got out and ran away. Officer Varner was aware that no one left the van while it was in his sights according to the police report.
The back passenger, 33-year-old Pamela Gayle White of Brownwood, stated that she was in the front passenger seat when they began to pull into a convenient store parking lot while being stopped and that Barnett told her to get in the back of the van. When they stopped, Barnett jumped into the front passenger seat.
Barnett soon changed her story according to the police report and stated that White was driving and jumped into the back of the van. A witness at a nearby convenient store where the vehicle had driven through was brought to the location of the stop and identified Patricia Kay Barnett as the driver. Pamela White was arrested for Public Intoxication while Barnett was arrested for felony DWI
–At 1:50 am on Saturday morning, Officer John Mills stopped a white Chevy Pickup in the 500 block of Lucus for running a stop sign. Upon further investigation, Officer Mills could smell alcohol on the driver and requested him to perform a field sobriety test. The driver, 42-year-old Karl Brian King of Early failed the sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI 2nd offense and open container.
