EarlyPDLogoThe Early Police Department with assistance from Brownwood Police responded to a call of shots fired early Saturday morning at a party in the 200 block of McDonald Drive where one man was reported injured.

According to Early Chief of Police David Mercer, around 1:30am Saturday, officers from both agencies responded to the location where several intoxicated individuals were found with one of the individuals injured.

Although witnesses were reluctant to speak about the incident, Mercer stated that officers had learned the incident began with an argument over a drug deal.  When the victim attempted to break up the argument, the suspect pulled a shotgun from his car and struck the victim in the head, Mercer said.  The suspect then fired a shot at the victim who fled into the bushes to hide, Mercer reported.

The identity of the suspect is not known at this time according to Mercer and police are asking the public for any information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspect.  At the time of the report, the victim was not sure if he wanted to file charges.

“We are trying to locate the identity of the suspect and will pursue other charges even if the victim does not file charges,” said Mercer.

The investigation is continuing and the Early Police Department encourages anyone who has information regarding the suspect or details of the incident to contact EPD at 325-646-5322.
